Dr Huw Thomas qualified as a doctor in 1980, and he’s been interest in diving and aviation medicine since 1984. Huw’s first diving experience was with an old style horse collar buoyancy aid, too much weight and a trip to the bottom of the Empire swimming pool in Cardiff.
Diving took a break as the medical career developed and he returned to SCUBA diving whilst on holiday in Jamaica and the appeal of tropical reefs and clear, warm water .
He was Medical Diving Officer for a dive club in Fleet, Hampshire. This gave first hand experience of in divers medical problems. Followed by courses in Hyperbaric Medicine at the University of Aberdeen. This included a chamber dive to 30m to experience narcosis first hand. His later dive trips have been to Stoney Cove, Portland, the Florida Keys, Kenya and Barbados.
Aviation medicine shares some problems with diving and Huw qualified as a Private Pilot in 1998. Dr Thomas became interested in aviation medicine after treating a pilot suffering bone problems due to decompression sickness,
Dr Huw aims to deliver every patient advice on a one-to-one basis, and this is can be for Novice or Professional diver
